How To Stop Hair Loss During Summer Season

Hair loss can be a right pain in the backside, particularly during the months of autumn and spring. However, seasonal shedding is also fairly common during the summer months, and here's why...

Despite most of us experiencing the most aggressive shedding phases during spring time, summer can also play havoc on our locks. More than half of us experience damage and breakage of the hair during the hotter months of the year, and this is mainly down to the hot weather.

Hot weather can be an absolute nightmare for our hair strands, with excessive sweating, and constant exposure to the heat, it is absolutely vital that we take good care of our hair during summer, in order to avoid unnecessary loss of hair.

So, in no particular order, we go through 5 key ways that you can stop excessive hair shedding during summer season...

1. Cover Your Hair

Extreme heat from the sun plays a big role in damaging the strands, so, too much exposure to the sun will not do you or your hair any favours. If you are spending a lot of time in the sun, then be sure to cover your hair, where possible, with hats or a head scarf.

2. Moisturise Your Hair

Hair can go dry and brittle during the hotter period of the year, so be sure to keep your hair hydrated and moisturised. A god hair cream will help keep your hair hydrated, moisturised, and it will also protect your strands from the harsh UV light.

3. Take Cold Showers

Taking cold showers is actually healthy for many aspects of your body, including your hair, especially during summer season. We tend to sweat more during summer, which is not good for our hair, so cold showers help reduce excessive sweating, whilst boosting your hair.

4. Use The Right Products

Be sure to use some effective products to help your hair thrive during summer. A good SPF hair protection lotion can help reduce shedding and damage caused by the sun by up to 40%. A hair texturizing spray can help keep your strands compact, strengthened, protected and less prone to damage, and a good multivitamin hair supplement can help reduce excessive hair shedding and increase the rate of hair growth.

Be sure to use a natural shampoo for your hair, especially during the shedding phase. Chemicals can be harsh on the strands, so always opt for an organic shampoo, which is kinder to your locks. Using a dry shampoo will help keep your scalp dry, which combats excess sweating, thus preventing unnecessary damage to the hair.

5. Drink Plenty of Water

Drinking water benefits every single part of your body, so you should be drinking plenty of it, especially during the hot summer months. Drinking lots of water will help keep your hair hydrated, healthy, and able to thrive.
