If You Don't Look After Your Hair Now, You'll Hate Yourself Later

Acting early can prevent baldness and thinning hair

  • Q: I am a 23 year old male and I am already beginning to notice signs of hair loss. Is this normal at my age, and what should I do to prevent it? I have been told that I should act quickly, but I don't know where to start.

Answer: Unfortunately, baldness can affect men (and women) of all ages. Hair loss does not discriminate, so in answer to your first question, yes, it can be normal to experience hair loss at your age.

The first thing you should do is establish what type of hair loss you are suffering from.  Baldness comes in many forms, so your current shedding might not be down to the reasons you may think. Once you establish the cause of your hair loss, the sooner you will be able to start treating it.

Let's assume you are suffering from the most common form of hair loss - male pattern baldness. It is true, the sooner you act, the better chance you will have of preventing more shedding. It is estimated that over 90% of men who act sooner, actually hold onto their hair for longer.

By acting fast, you will have a better chance of slowing down the rate of shedding, and possibly even help promote the rate of hair growth. The key is to act quickly, and to find the treatment that works most suitably for you.

The effectiveness of hair loss treatments and products will always vary with each individual. So, what might work well on Person A, won't necessarily work as effectively on Person B.  It's all about trying and testing formulations, in order to find the right product that works best for you.

Before you start buying products and testing out treatments, we would strongly recommend that you speak to a specialist first, to confirm your hair loss type.  Once you know the cause of your problem, you will best know how to go about treating it.
