Has Sebastian Vettel had a Hair Transplant?

What hair loss treatment does Sebastian Vettel use?

With his skill, and trophy cabinet, he's known as one of the greatest Formula One drivers of the modern era, but German speedster, Sebastian Vettel, is also known for his hair!

Many fans were shocked to see Vettel go from bald to haired, in a matter of months, which led to many thinking that the four time world champion had undergone hair surgery.

Vettel was showing clear signs of hair thinning over the past ten years. As each season came along, Vettel was demonstrating signs of male pattern baldness.

Since around 2015, Vettel's frontal hairline was gradually receding, and the overall texture of his strands became much thinner, to the point whereby at the start of the 2020 season, head looked completely bald (see main image above).

Then, by 2021, Vettel's locks appeared to be back, in a much longer worn length, which left many fans questioning how he managed to grow his hair back.

How did Sebastian Vettel grow back his hair?

If we assume that Vettel's hair loss is down to androgenic alopecia (male pattern baldness), then there is no way he could have just grown his hair back after losing it.  If Vettel's hair loss was temporary, like stress related, or alopecia areata, then there would be a likely chance that much of his hair grew back.

However, it does seem evident that Vettel's hair loss is indeed a case of advanced male pattern baldness, and that any hair restoration would have been down to surgical procedures.

It would appear that Vettel has undergone a hair transplant - this is a procedure whereby the hairs are extracted from the sides and the back of the head, and reinserted into the balding areas of the scalp.

The head is usually shaved before the procedure, and patients should not expect to see clear results (hair growth) until 6-12 months (sometimes more). This could explain why Vettel had his head shaved, and then, a year or so later, was sporting much longer locks.

Even though Vettel's hair is long, you can still see the bald patches along the top of his head, and his hairline is still very high up hi forehead. Vettel styles his hair so that it looks thicker, but in reality, it is still very thin.

Hair transplants aren't always guaranteed to give optimal results, so, much like with Spanish tennis player, Rafael Nadal, it could be a transplant that didn't work to full effect, for Vettel. If this is the case, then Vettel will have to undergo another few transplants in an attempt to try and get some hair density and coverage, which will be costly, but with his salary, money shouldn't be an issue for him.

What are the cheaper alternatives to hair transplants?

For most of us, a hair transplant is just too far out of reach, financially, but fear not, there are some other ways in which hair loss can be reduced, and even stopped, which can buy you some more time, and enjoy your locks for longer.

Medical treatments like Finasteride and Minoxidil can help slow down hair loss, but with these types of treatments (Finasteride in particular), there is the risk of nasty side-effects, some of which can be long term, and even permanent.

Safe and effective alternatives to medical treatments include multivitamin supplements (HR23+ being the most effective), topical solutions like keratinocyte growth factor (KGF) serum, treatment shampoos like Nizoral (ketoconazole), or even micro-needling practices with a derma roller.
