How HR23+ Has Evolved: Inside the Latest Hair Supplement Formula
First launched in 2015, HR23+® has developed from a specialist UK hair supplement into an established international brand. Here is how its formula has evolved, what makes it different, and why it remains popular more than a decade later.
The hair supplement market has changed dramatically over the past ten years. Hundreds of new products have appeared, ingredients such as saw palmetto and pumpkin seed have become increasingly familiar, and customers are now far more knowledgeable about the possible causes of thinning hair.
HR23+® has been part of that market since 2015. During that time, the supplement has been used by more than 100,000 customers and shipped to men and women in over 100 countries.
Rather than remaining unchanged, its formula has been refined as new ingredients have emerged and long-term customer feedback has accumulated. The objective has not been to reinvent HR23+, but to preserve its established foundation while strengthening the elements considered most relevant to healthy hair.
So, what has changed—and what has more than a decade of customer use taught us about the supplement?
What is HR23+?
HR23+ is a specialist food supplement for adult men and women experiencing concerns such as early-stage thinning, excessive shedding, reduced density or weaker-looking hair.
It contains 23 vitamins, minerals, amino acids and botanical extracts in a four-capsule daily serving. These ingredients have been selected to provide broad nutritional and botanical support rather than relying on one highly promoted “miracle” ingredient.
HR23+ is not a medication and does not contain finasteride, minoxidil or any other prescription drug. It is intended for people who prefer a non-prescription approach or who want to add nutritional support to a wider hair-care routine.
It is important to be realistic: HR23+ cannot cure baldness or revive follicles that are no longer active. Its purpose is to support the maintenance of normal hair and help create more favourable conditions for healthy-looking growth.
Why was the HR23+ formula updated?
A successful formula does not necessarily need a complete overhaul. In fact, changing too much can be counterproductive when a product already has a substantial number of satisfied, long-term users.
The developers therefore took a measured approach. The main formula update involved:
- Adding horsetail extract
- Increasing saw palmetto from 250 mg to 300 mg per daily serving
- Reducing the amount of choline
- Removing vitamin A
- Removing vitamin C
Further manufacturing improvements have since included replacing standard folic acid with methylfolate and removing soy and corn from the formula.
The result is still recognisably HR23+, but with a greater emphasis on the plant extracts that have become central to the supplement’s identity.
Why remove vitamin A and vitamin C?
It is easy to assume that adding more ingredients automatically makes a supplement better. That is not necessarily true.
Vitamin C is widely available from food and commonly found in everyday multivitamins. Vitamin A also requires sensible intake because consuming excessive amounts through several different supplements may be undesirable.
Neither vitamin was considered essential to HR23+’s central purpose. Removing them created room for the botanical side of the formula to be developed without unnecessarily increasing the number of capsules customers needed to take.
The formula still contains important hair-related nutrients. Biotin, zinc and selenium each contribute to the maintenance of normal hair, while the wider blend provides additional nutritional and botanical support.
Why was horsetail extract added?
Horsetail, or Equisetum arvense, is a plant traditionally used in preparations for the hair, skin and nails. It is naturally associated with silica, which has made it a popular component of modern beauty supplements.
Some of the claims made online about horsetail are considerably stronger than the available evidence supports. It should not be regarded as a standalone cure for hair loss, nor can its presence guarantee that new hair will grow.
Its value within HR23+ lies in how it complements the wider formula. Rather than depending on horsetail alone, the supplement combines it with saw palmetto, nettle leaf, pumpkin seed and established micronutrients.
This multi-ingredient approach allows different elements of hair health to be supported within one daily product.
The four key botanical extracts in HR23+
The current formula places particular emphasis on four botanical ingredients.
Saw palmetto
Saw palmetto is among the best-known botanical extracts used in supplements for men’s and women’s hair. It is especially popular with people concerned about hereditary or hormonally influenced thinning.
It is sometimes described online as a natural version of finasteride, but that comparison can be misleading. Finasteride is a licensed medicine with a defined pharmacological action. Saw palmetto is a botanical supplement ingredient and should not be expected to work in precisely the same way.
Within HR23+, saw palmetto forms one part of a broader formula rather than acting as a standalone treatment.
Horsetail extract
Horsetail was introduced to strengthen the botanical profile of HR23+. Its traditional association with hair condition and naturally occurring silica made it a logical addition to the existing blend.
Nettle leaf extract
Nettle leaf has a long history of use in traditional herbal preparations. It is frequently combined with saw palmetto in supplements aimed at men and women concerned about thinning hair.
Pumpkin seed extract
Pumpkin seed has become much more prominent within the hair supplement market in recent years. It completes the group of four principal extracts used within HR23+.
Together, saw palmetto, horsetail, nettle leaf and pumpkin seed form what the company describes as its “Big Four” botanical complex.
Has HR23+ been successful?
Remaining in production for more than a decade is a significant achievement in a crowded supplement market.
Since 2015, HR23+ has:
- Been used by more than 100,000 customers
- Reached customers in over 100 countries
- Generated thousands of customer ratings and reviews
- Developed a substantial repeat-customer base
- Built retail and distribution relationships outside the UK
- Continued to evolve without abandoning its original concept
HR23+ reports an overall customer satisfaction rate of more than 89%. Its customer outcome data also indicates that approximately 85% of male users and 91% of female users have reported visible improvements, most commonly after using the supplement consistently for between 3 and 12 weeks.
These statistics come from company customer feedback rather than an independent clinical trial. They should therefore be understood as real-world consumer outcome data, not a guarantee that every person will experience the same result.
However, the supplement’s longevity and repeat custom provide meaningful evidence that a considerable number of users feel it has benefited their hair.
What results do customers commonly report?
The experiences reported by HR23+ customers vary, but recurring observations include:
- Less hair falling during washing or brushing
- Stronger-feeling strands
- An improvement in hair texture and condition
- Fuller-looking hair in areas of early thinning
- Improved density around the hairline or centre parting
- Greater confidence in the overall appearance of the hair
Reduced shedding is often the first change people notice. More visible improvements usually require longer because the human hair-growth cycle operates over several months.
For that reason, HR23+ is generally best assessed over an initial three-month period rather than after only a few days or weeks.
Does HR23+ stop hair loss?
No hair supplement can honestly claim to stop every form of hair loss.
Thinning hair may be influenced by genetics, hormones, stress, illness, nutritional deficiencies, menopause, pregnancy, medication, thyroid problems or autoimmune conditions. The likely response to any supplement will depend heavily on the underlying cause.
HR23+ is most realistically suited to people in the earlier stages of thinning, when the follicles are still active and producing hair. It may also appeal to those experiencing increased shedding or a gradual decline in hair quality.
It is unlikely to restore hair to an area that has been completely bald for many years. Anyone experiencing sudden, severe, patchy or otherwise unexplained hair loss should seek professional medical advice.
Is HR23+ safer than prescription medication?
HR23+ is a food supplement rather than a prescription treatment, so it does not carry the same recognised sexual side-effect profile associated with medicines such as finasteride.
That does not mean it should be described as entirely risk-free. Any active supplement can potentially be unsuitable for a particular individual or interact with medication.
People who are pregnant, breastfeeding, receiving treatment for a medical condition or taking prescribed medication should consult an appropriate healthcare professional before use. The label directions and stated serving should always be followed.
The main distinction is choice. HR23+ gives consumers access to a non-prescription option that does not require them to begin with a pharmaceutical treatment.
Can HR23+ be combined with other hair treatments?
Some people use HR23+ as their principal form of hair support, while others combine it with topical products or treatments.
A wider routine might include:
- An appropriate scalp shampoo
- A topical hair serum
- Minoxidil
- Microneedling
- Improved dietary habits
- Treatment of a diagnosed nutritional deficiency
- Professional assessment of an underlying health condition
Using several products simultaneously can make it difficult to identify which one is producing a result. However, hair loss is often influenced by more than one factor, so a combined approach may be appropriate in some cases.
Medication and microneedling require particular care and should be used according to suitable professional guidance.
Why HR23+ continues to stand out
HR23+ now competes in a much busier market than it did in 2015. Its longevity is therefore one of its strongest qualities.
Many fashionable hair supplements appear briefly, rely heavily on a single ingredient and disappear within a few years. HR23+ has continued to be manufactured, reviewed and refined over a much longer period.
Its main strengths include:
- More than ten years of customer use
- A specialist 23-ingredient formula
- Separate suitability for men and women
- Four central botanical extracts
- Methylfolate rather than standard folic acid
- No soy or corn
- No prescription or subscription requirement
- Worldwide availability
- A large body of customer feedback
- Continued formula development
It is not an overnight cure, and it will not work identically for every user. What it offers is an established, carefully developed option for people who want to support their hair through a non-prescription daily supplement.
The verdict on the updated HR23+ formula
The changes made to HR23+ were sensible rather than dramatic.
Removing two widely available vitamins, reducing choline, increasing saw palmetto and adding horsetail allowed the developers to sharpen the formula’s focus without changing the nature of the product customers already knew.
Its subsequent move to methylfolate and removal of soy and corn demonstrate that development has continued beyond the original update.
More than a decade after its launch, HR23+ remains one of the more established specialist hair supplements available from an independent UK brand. Its record does not prove that it will reverse every type of hair loss, but it does show that the supplement has earned considerable loyalty and remained commercially relevant in an exceptionally competitive market.
For men and women experiencing early thinning, increased shedding or weaker-looking hair, HR23+ offers a credible and well-established option—provided it is used consistently and approached with realistic expectations.
