Tablets for Male Pattern Baldness: Do They Work?

How effective are hair growth tablets for men?

Multi-vitamin hair tablets have been around for a good 15 years now. We've seen plenty of them come and go over the years, but which of these products is the best?

Male pattern baldness affects over 60% of men by the age of 40, which is quite a frightening statistic - especially for men who love their hair.  The problem is, the closest thing we have to a cure is Finasteride - which is a potent medically approved hair loss treatment in tablet form.

Finasteride is known to cause some serious negative side-effects and after-effects, such as low sex drive, erectile dysfunction, skin rash, mental health issues, and lack of sleep.  These are things that the majority of men want to avoid.

Naturally formulated tablets offer men a safer solution to tackling hair loss, without the risk of the nasty side-effects and harsh reactions. And although some multi-vitamin tablets work better than others, it is hard to define exactly how effective these products actually are.

What are male multi-vitamin hair tablets?

Multi-vitamin tablets come in all kinds of variations, but we are focusing specifically on some of the ones that target men only.  You will find that the majority of expensive (and popular) multi-vitamin supplements are generally considered to be for men and women, and so it is not clear why some supplements are for men only.

Here, we look at five of the most well-known male tablets for hair loss.  They all fall into the mid-price-range mark (£25-£35 per bottle), and they all promise the same thing: To combat baldness in men.  The question we ask is, are these products effective, or are they just a scam?

Foligain®

Ingredients: Ginkgo Biloba Leaf Extract, Saw Palmetto Berry Extract, Nettle Leaf Extract, Folate, Biotin, Iodine, Zinc, Copper, Niacin, Vitamin B6, Vitamin B5, Ginseng, Taurine.

Foligain® contains a rich base of key hair beneficiary ingredients that can help with the prevention of thinning, and promote hair growth. This formula contains a good blend of DHT blockers, mixed with hair growth agents, like Vitamin B7.  We would regard this as one of the better hair health supplements for men.

Foligain® contains many of the same/similar additives as some of the leading multi-vitamin hair supplements on the market. The addition of Saw Palmetto and Nettle Leaf Extract makes this a potent, yet safe, supplement to take.  Its effectiveness is unclear, but you should expect some improvements in the hair from taking this, albeit minimal.  If you're looking for a better version of this product, then it could be worth looking at Viviscal.

FollicleFuel

Ingredients: Marine Collagen, MSM, Silica, Vitamin C, Hydraulic Acid, Vitamin E, Zinc, Copper, Biotin, Iodine.

Much like Foligain®, it is difficult to establish why FollicleFuel is for men only, because all the ingredients in this supplement can also be taken by women. But it has to be said, the ingredients in this supplement are very good - the problem is, there doesn't seem to be enough of them. If you took the ingredients from this and merged them together with Foligain®, then you'd have something a lot closer to a potentially effective hair supplement.

In all honesty, you should not expect much from FollicleFuel as a treatment for male baldness.  This is one of the least impressive multi-vitamin hair supplements on the market, mainly because of its rather limited formula. That's not to say that Follicle Fuel cannot be effective in some way, but it does not rank as a top supplement for male baldness.

HairXcel

Ingredients: Ginkgo Biloba, Folic Acid, Biotin, Vitamin C, Zinc, Copper, Niacin, Vitamin A.

HairXcel offers a good balance between Foligain and FollicleFuel.  The product combines some of the best ingredients from both supplements into its own potent formula. However, this ingredient list does seem rather light in some areas, and it is unclear how effective HairXcel actually is.

This is the only supplement on this list that does not specifically market itself to men.  HairXcel is technically a unisex product.  You can expect to some results from taking these tablets, but don't expect miracles.  It is unlikely you will experience any real visible signs of improvement in the growth of your hair, although you may notice slightly less hair fall.  If you want a more potent version of this product that offers superior results, then consider trying HR23+.

Melan Plus

Ingredients: PABA, Saw Palmetto, Biotin, Vitamin B2, Zinc, Vitamin B12, Niacin, Vitamin E.

Again, Melan Plus is not too dissimilar to the other supplements mentioned on this list. We're looking at the same kind of formula, with very similar ingredients. Melan Plus does not contain many ingredients, but based on its additives alone, it is a good formula for hair health.

It is unlikely that you will see any major improvements in your hair from taking Melan Plus, however, you may notice less hair fall due to the Saw Palmetto, along with stronger hair growth from the Vitamin B7.  All in all though, there are better multi-vitamin supplements on the market that contain more ingredients for improved performance.

Procerin

Ingredients: Saw Palmetto Berries, Gotu Kola, Nettles, Magnesium, Zinc Sulfate, Eleuthero Root, Vitamin B-6, Pumpkin Seed Meal, and Muira Puma Root.

Procerin is a hair growth tablet designed for men who suffer from baldness.  This popular supplement was once the best selling male hair supplement in the USA, but its popularity has fallen in recent years. However, it is still regarded as one of the best male hair supplements within its price range on the market.

Many users of Procerin noticed visible improvements in their hair after the first three months of using it. However, the results were not as good after the initial stage of usage.  It is unclear why this common trend keeps occurring. This could be a good supplement for short term results, but it is unlikely to be effective over a long period of time.
