Common Questions about HAIR LOSS Answered

FAQs hair loss

Hair loss affects more of us than ever before. It is estimated that up to 65% of men experience thinning hair by the age of 40. Over half of women will have the same fate by the same age.
The internet is full of frequently asked questions about hair loss, so in this article, we'll go through some of them, in order to give you a clearer idea of the causes, symptoms, and treatments.

Can a receding hairline be reversed?

A receding hairline usually occurs in men who suffer from male pattern baldness. As the hairline recedes, the hair gets thinner, which leads to eventual baldness.

Latter stages of hair loss cannot be treated, but early stages can be treated to a certain extent. For men, the most common treatment for a receding hairline is Finasteride, which is a prescription drug - however, it can cause negative side-effects, so caution is strongly advised.

Like any form or stage of baldness, treating it early is most advantageous.

What is the best shampoo for re-growing hair?

Some shampoos can benefit the hair, but not to the extent of re-growing lost hair through pattern baldness. Hair regrowth can only occur if the follicle has been damaged, or pulled out. Certain shampoos can help strengthen the strands, and make them grow quicker, but no shampoo has shown to treat male or female pattern baldness effectively.

If you're looking for a shampoo that will benefit your hair, and help strengthen it, then use one that contains B Vitamins, like Biotin, Folate, and Niacin.

What is the most effective treatment for baldness?

There are many treatments for hair loss on the market, but only two are medically approved. The first is Finasteride, which is a prescription drug in the form of a pill, specifically for men. And the next one of Minoxidil, which is a topical treatment which can be purchased over the counter.

Although both treatments can be effective, there is also the risk of negative side-effects, particularly from using Finasteride, so be sure to speak to your doctor before committing to either treatment.

What is a safe alternative to prescription drugs?

As far as safe alternatives go, your best bet is to try multi-vitamin supplements that are specifically designed for hair. The market leaders include HR23+ and Viviscal, both of which contain a strong blend of safe and natural ingredients that can help slow down early stages of baldness and thinning hair.

How much is a Hair Transplant?

The price of a hair transplant can vary, depending on how much hair you need transplanted, where you have it, and how good (or bad) your donar area is.

In the United States, you are likely to spend in the region of £6,000-£12,000 for a standard hair transplant. The price would be around £3,000-£6,000 in the United Kingdom, and as low as £1,500 in Turkey.

Is it worth getting a Hair Transplant?

Again, it all depends on the individual. As long as your expectations aren't too high, it could be an avenue worth investigating.

Some key things to bear in mind are:
  • Be prepared to have more than one transplant. Hair transplants restore lost hair, but they don't regrow it, they simply replace it. Once the thinner areas of your scalp have been filled, it's likely you'll lose hair on other parts of your scalp over time, therefore, top-up treatments will be necessary.
  • It is likely that your surgeon will put you on Finasteride after your transplant. If you are not keen on taking Finasteride, then be prepared with alternative treatments, like multi-vitamin supplements, for example. Daily treatments post-transplant will be necessary.
  • Don't settle for the first clinic you find, and don't settle on the cheapest. Have a look around, talk to the surgeons, and try to gage what clinic is best suited to you. Request customer reviews and photo testimonials, as they'll give you an idea of that standard of practice.

My father was bald in his 30s, does that mean I will be, too?

In most cases, balding men will take after their fathers, or from their mother's side of the family, but it isn't always the case. It all depends on what genetics you've inherited from your dad. It's basically pot luck!

Is there a cheap, home remedy I can use to treat thinning hair?

There are many popular homemade, hair growth remedies, such as onion juice, that claim to treat baldness and regrow hair, but none have been scientifically proven. Being next to nothing in cost, you have nothing to lose by trying them, but don't expect miracles.

What foods can prevent hair loss?

Hair loss can't be cured through eating food, but certain foods can help with hair health. Typically, high-protein foods can help strengthen your strands and make them less prone to damage and breakage. Some good hair foods include: fish, spinach, avocado, broccoli, nuts, eggs, seeds, and berries.

Does HR23+ make your hair regrow?

Like any credible multi-vitamin hair supplement, HR23+ can benefit the hair hugely. It's main purpose is to slow down excess hair shedding, and help maintain the healthy function of hair growth in men and women.

HR23+ is not a cure for baldness, but rather a hair health supplement. If you are suffering from early stages of thinning hair, then HR23+ can help halt the hair loss, and promote stronger, thicker hair growth.

How do I stop hair fall and regrow it?

Again, it is near impossible to answer this question accurately, as everyone is different, and the effectiveness of most hair treatments vary from person-to-person, but there are some methods that many men and women have used to great effect.

As already mentioned, Minoxidil can be a viable solution for stopping hair fall, as well as help regrow hair, but only on a minimal scale. In most cases, to get the best results, you'll have to use Minoxidil in conjunction with other treatments.

Supplements and topical serums that contain Biotin and Saw Palmetto can be hugely beneficial to slowing down hair loss and promoting health hair growth. Biotin is a hair growth agent, whereas Saw Palmetto can act as a DHT blocker, although more tests are needed to confirm its exact rate of success.

You'll find it much easier and more effective to take multi-vitamin supplements, like HR23+, that already contain Biotin and Saw Palmetto, along with a whole host of other hair beneficiary ingredients, that can help stop hair fall and help regrow healthy hair.

Does a Derma Roller make your hair regrow?

A derma roller is a small device that uses pins to puncture tiny wounds into the skin. In order to heal the wounds, the body produces collagen, which promotes the growth of hair follicles.

This device is used for anti-ageing on the facial skin, but users have discovered it can also work for hair loss. Using a 0.5mm derma roller, simply roll the pins along the desired area of your scalp once or twice a week. Derma rollers are mega cheap too (under £10).

Is PRP good for treating hair loss?

In short, yes, PRP (platelet-rich plasma), can help regrow lost hair, however, being a relatively new treatment, more tests, trials, and studies are needed to know exactly how effective PRP is.

PRP therapy is a three-step process. Most PRP therapy requires three treatments 4–6 weeks apart, with maintenance treatments required around twice a year. The blood is drawn — typically from your arm — and put into a centrifuge (a machine that spins rapidly to separate fluids of different densities).

After about 10 minutes in the centrifuge, your blood will have separated into in three layers: platelet-poor plasma, platelet-rich plasma and red blood cells. The platelet-rich plasma is drawn up into a syringe and then injected into balding and thinner areas of the scalp.
