What types of hair loss treatments does Enrique Iglesias use?

Latin pop sensation, Enrique Iglesias, has been in the spotlight for the best part of three decades, and now, well into his 40s, he doesn't look like slowing down any time soon.

The Spanish heartthrob seems to have aged like a fine wine, with many fans insisting that he seems to look suspiciously younger with each passing year.

It wouldn't come as a surprise to anyone if Enrique admitted to having some sort of plastic surgery done, or some kind of hair loss treatment, over the years, because, lets face it, 99% of celebs get something done.

We aren't experts on faces, here at the Hair Loss Review Centre, but we do know a thing or two about hair! And when it comes to Enrique's hair, there's no question that he's had something done...

Is Enrique Iglesias losing his hair?

If you look at old photos of Enrique from when he was in his early 20s (see below), you can clearly see that he was experiencing early signs of male pattern baldness, with diffuse thinning, and frontal hairline recession. Although he was still very young, it is still not uncommon for pattern baldness to occur in men as young as their 20s.

The images above show Enrique in 1996, and it is clear that he was losing his hair, with aggressive receding at the frontal hairline, at around Norwood Hamilton scale 3.

If you compare these images to that of Enrique in more recent years (see below), you will see a huge difference. The texture of his hair is much thicker now, fuller in body and in density.

It seems very unlikely that this is all his original hair, because 25 years on from his early years, it is inevitable that Enrique would have lost most, if not all, of his hair by now.

Enrique has been a keen wearer of hats over the years, and it's very rare that you would see him without one. This means we've never really got to see his hairline progress, which is so crucial in determining if he had hair surgery or not.

Having shown clear signs of receding and thinning in 1996, it would have been good to compare that to how it is today, to give us a more accurate evaluation of what hair loss treatments he could have had.

Enrique was experiencing male pattern baldness in his early years, there is no question about it. So, let's dive in and try to establish what treatments he's had done...

How did Enrique reverse hair loss?

It should be noted that there is no cure for hair loss, in this current age. Hair loss cannot be reversed in men or women, but there are some treatments and procedures that can help slow down and even halt hair loss, to a certain extent.

For sufferers of early stages of male pattern baldness, there are usually a few options to consider. There's the medical option, which would involve taking finasteride (an FDA approved hair loss treatment pill for male baldness), the non-medical option, such as hair supplements and topical solutions, or there's the option of surgery (hair transplantation).

If Enrique wanted to treat his hair loss back in the 90s, then many of the top non-medical hair loss treatments like HR23+ and keratinocyte growth factor (KGF) would not have been around at the time. Hair transplants were nowhere near as good or as advanced as they are today, so the most likely treatment option would have been finasteride.

Finasteride is a treatment pill for male baldness, which can slow down hair loss, and support hair growth. This can be effective, but it can also give permanent negative side-effects. Like any drug, Finasteride is not good for the health.

We must also not rule out the possibility that Enrique wears a hair piece/hair system. Hair systems are commonly used by Hollywood A-listers, and judging by some of the photos of Enrique over the years (see below), it would be inconceivable to think that he could well be wearing some sort of wig.

Conclusion

Judging by his hairline in the 90s, to how his hair looks today, it is absolutely apparent that Enrique has either used medical hair loss treatments, had surgical treatment, or wears some sort of hair piece. It could even be a combination of all three.

Receding at the hairline cannot be reversed, but it can be halted. Enrique has always styled his hair with a fringe, or pushed forward to cover the hairline. It is possible that he started using something like finasteride, or Dutasteride, back in his early years, in order to halt the recession.

Hairstyling products and certain styling techniques can give the illusion of thicker, fuller hair, so it could just be a case of clever styling in order to hide his hair loss.

However, even on finasteride, Enrique's hair loss would still have progressed over a 25 year period. He could well have started wearing hair pieces at some stage in the 2000s, when his hair started to look more shiny and bigger in density.

Also, notice how Enrique doesn't seem to have any grey hair. Most men in their 40s start to get grey hairs, but Enrique's has stayed dark. Yes, he's probably dyed his hair, but don't rule out the possibility that his hair could actually be a wig or some kind of advanced hair system.

Although it's not completely inconceivable, it's unlikely that Enrique has had a hair transplant. The thinning was advanced when he was in his 20s, and so it's unlikely that a transplant would have managed to produce that sort of coverage and density.

However, with transplants being quite poor in standard back in the 90s, he may well have had a bad experience with one, which could explain why he always wears hats.

Most cases of celebrity hair loss are easy define, and the treatments used are easy to pinpoint, but in  Enrique's case, it's not so simple. If we're guessing, then it's likely that Enrique used finasteride/Dutasteride at an early age, then switched over to safer, non-medical alternatives like HR23+ at some point in the 2010s, along with wearing specially made hair pieces.
