Hair Products to AVOID During Autumn Season

Prevent Autumn Hair Loss by avoiding these products...

For those of you who didn't know, autumn season can actually be a nightmare for our locks.  Seasonal hair loss occurs most during the autumn months, which can leave the hair looking tired, thin, and unconditioned.

In most cases, seasonal hair loss is a temporary phase, and normal hair growth usually resumes as the winter months approach, however, many men and women who suffer from seasonal hair loss are keen to minimise the issue as safely and as effectively as possible.

We have already covered a range of effective treatments for hair loss during autumn season, so in this article, we go through some products and treatments to avoid during fall.

Minoxidil

Minoxidil is an FDA approved treatment for men and women suffering with androgenic alopecia (male/female pattern hair loss). It can be effective for minimising hair loss and promoting hair growth, but it should only be used for permanent hair loss types.

The problem with minoxidil is that it can cause extreme shedding during its early phases, which is something you will want to avoid if you are only experiencing temporary hair shedding during a certain season. Minoxidil is a treatment that should be used over a long period of time, so using it to treat seasonal hair loss may cause more harm than good.

Shampoo & Conditioner

Ok, so we're not saying that you should completely avid washing your hair with shampoo and conditioner, because shampooing and conditioning is actually good for your locks (if you're using the right products).

What we are saying is that over-shampooing/conditioning can aggravate the hair, particularly if it is already prone to thinning and falling out. Lessen your shampoo usage to 1-2 times a week, maximum, and make dry shampoo your new best friend.

Heat Styling Products

This one should go without saying, but we'll remind you, anyway. Try to avoid using heat styling products like hair dryers and hair straighteners, because the heat can cause serious damage to the hair, which is the last think you want if you are already thinning.

If you have to use these types of devices, then at the very least, turn the heat setting down to a cooler mode. Damage limitation is better than nothing.

Hair Brush

Again, we're not suggesting that brushing your hair can cause hair loss, but what it does do is aggravate the strands, which can lead to hair fall and damage if one is already prone to excessive hair shedding.

If you are an avid hair brush user, then consider substituting the brush for a comb with wide teeth. Be gentle when running it through your hair, and try to avoid pulling.

Medication

Medical products are often a major reason as to why people lose so much hair. We understand that some medications are essential, and therefore cannot be avoided, but try to seek alternatives that are less harmful to your hair, where possible.

Most medications are generally considered to be bad for the hair, but there are some out there that will cause less damage, so speak to your doctor about this.

Stress

Ok, so it's not technically a product, but try to avoid stressing too much, if you can. The combination of stress and seasonal shedding is not great for the hair. It can cause excessive shedding, which is certainly not something that you want.

Stress can be countered with a healthy diet, plenty of exercise, and meditation.
